An interesting take on posture

I have been pretty busy lately. I’m in the process of moving to a new place and I have been working a lot. This is why today’s post is going to be somewhat short. However, I included an interesting video. Posture work is often ignored on most fitness websites and it’s a shame. A healthy posture is the only (conscious) way to avoid back pain and other types of pain (e.g. shoulder pain). On top of that, we bring our bad posture to the gym which often leads to injuries (gym/sport-related injuries are on the rise). What can we do to improve our posture? That’s what Esther Gokhale will teach you in the following video.

Here is some info about Esther and the video (taken from the youtube video description) :

With a fresh approach to a common problem, this self-help guide to overcoming back pain advocates adopting the natural, healthy posture of athletes, young children, and people from traditional societies the world over. Arguing that most of what our culture has taught us about posture is misguided—even unhealthy—and exploring the current epidemic of back pain, many of the commonly cited reasons for the degeneration of spinal discs and the stress on muscles that leads to back pain are examined and debunked. The historical and anthropological roots of poor posture in Western cultures are studied as is the absence of back pain complaints in the cultures of Africa, Asia, South America, and rural Europe.

Esther Gokhale, LAc, is the founder of the Esther Gokhale Wellness Center, a licensed acupuncturist, and the creator of the Gokhale Method, an approach that helps people achieve better health through better structure.

Thanks to Joshua from Eating Paleo in Montreal for the link.

That’s all for today! What did you think of the video? I found it rather interesting. I love anthropology and how it can help us improve our ”modern” life. I’m pretty sure Esther’s advice are spot on. I have been trying out some of them and I already feel better (especially when I sit at the computer). One thing is sure, I’m going to order her book.

Thanks for reading and make sure to come back tomorrow for a longer post (I promise)!
