Crossfit fans who don’t crossfit… You piss me off!!!

Just a small rant. I have had enough and I can’t take it anymore. As we all know, crossfit can be a fine way to workout and even enhance your athletic ability in some cases. Most crossfitters will tell you that crossfit is the best training program ever. While I disagree with this statement on the principle of relativity, I do understand their argument : They love their training as much as I love mine. And, this, my friends, is gold.

In defense of exercise : why exercise will make you thin

Lately, I have been so busy that I have had a hard time posting new posts. Between studying physiology of exercise and neurology, I still managed to keep up to date with the paleo – or not- fitness community. I have come to the conclusion that there are a lot of fitness myths that are spreading in the online world. Usually, I don’t care much about debunking these myths because I find them entertaining. Plus, most of the time, they get debunked by other bloggers before I get to do it. However, when I read that people are pushing the idea that exercise won’t make you thin, I had to do something about it.

Let’s clarify something about exercise

Nothing is all black or white.

The paleo community has been extremely good at pushing forward new ideas. The evolutionary sauce has been added to about every part of our lifestyle and for the most part, the recipe has turned out pretty good. There is however a problem when this ”sauce” become an ”everything or nothing” type of scenario. Let’s be honest here, evolutionary eating is just plain awesome. But it does require us to take into account the lifestyle (including past and current health problems) of the person we are helping. It’s also important to understand that you can’t give the same recipe to everyone and expect it to come out well every time. You really need to personalize the diet, so that the person can stick to it all his life. This was covered here and here. The same can be said of exercise.

Meet Mr. Fit or why exercise is important

Mr. Fit is a motivated guy when it comes to working out. He rarely misses a workout because he loves to workout. He understands that exercise does a body good, and that rest is important too. Mr. Fit believes that being active is going to keep him healthy forever. Sometimes, at night, whenever he thinks about his day, all he thinks about is how great he feels because of his active lifestyle. He feels that his fitness journey is self-rewarding because he has been achieving realistic goals since day one of his training regimen. Mr. Fit is obviously a fictional character that I am using to make a point : exercise is important and everyone should try to improve their own fitness level.

Food tips for trekking

Trekking is such a great activity. You get to be far from the office and enjoy the beautiful landscapes. You also get sun exposure, which is pretty much absent from city folks’ lives nowadays. Trekking is fun because it reminds us of our ancestors’ daily activities. Lots of slow walking, some climbing here and there, and camping at night. Most of all, it reminds us that their lives were not centred around stress. They were highly stressed when they met predators, but that’s about it. Civilization is built on stress. The state and the job employers tell us how much we should produce and we have to respect a deadline. Let’s see how you could improve your performance by eating the right foods whenever you go out trekking.

Bodyweight training : Equipment and Programing

http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_IoWABtl__gQ/SjGwMDeFEBI/AAAAAAAAAKI/WC490zm98WQ/s1600/2dbe3-gymnastics2009a.jpgAs promised yesterday, this entry is dedicated to the equipment needs and routine programing of bodyweight training. My training philosophy is simple. I workout according to the pillars of health, because I like to get as much as possible from my workout.  Throughout the years, I have found that it is the optimal way to train for me. I love the fact that it is challenging and fun. I believe this is the reason why my motivation has always been high. I feel like I accomplish feats and records on a regular basis, and I can’t help but being proud of myself. This entry will not cover the whole subject (this is a broad topic) but it will give you a few ideas as far as training is concerned.

Bodyweight training : a fast way to become strong

http://www128.pair.com/r3d4k7/OneArmLeverPullup5.jpgOver the years I have researched extensively about the best way to improve my strength. For me, working out as always been strength-oriented because if you are looking to increase muscle mass or lose some weight, it’s also going to happen. Also, no matter how hard I worked out in the gym, I was never as strong as I wanted to be and I always felt that I did not progress quickly. It was only when I started to do bodyweight training that I realized how it is a perfect fit for me. Eventually, it led me to develop some simple, yet really good, routines (more about that tomorrow). Today, I will address the benefits of bodyweight training.

A new way to look at walking

source : http://www.foot-fixer.com/images/Walking%20feet.jpgLately, it seems that a few elite coaches are going on the record to tell us that walking is not a proper way to exercise. They claim that if you make your athlete or client walk, you are not challenging them. Therefore, according to them, walking is a waste of time. Why would you choose to walk when you could do some interval training (e.g. tabatas)? Have you ever considered how long you would need to walk to burn as much fat as a 10 minutes sprint session ? Of course, if you look at walking with this perspective, you are going to miss some of the benefits it can provide in my opinion. I would like to present a new way to look at walking.
