Why are we fat?

Thousands and thousands of books, Internet websites, and specialists are dedicated to finding or explaining why we – civilized humans living in industrial societies – are fat. This never ending quest to find the few factors that are making us fat has been productive. We now know where we should dedicate our efforts (diet, exercise, sleep, etc.) However, we can’t really say that our society knows how to make those factors better for us (or, we would all be healthier by now).  Plus, there are so many opinions around that one can get lost when trying to find a way to improve his own health. Today, I will present some of those factors in details (those that are easily improvable). Tomorrow, we will see how we can actually try to improve them.

Interesting finding

Sorry for boosting your immune system this morning!

Canadians researchers of University of British Columbia found that looking at sick people can up our immunity. Results were published in the journal Psychological Science (current edition). It was interpreted that it could be detrimental if the immunity system is always ramped up. They say it would be beneficial in short-term, but not so much in the long-term because of the energy needed to support such a ramped up immunity system. Still, this study proved that there is a link between our senses, state of mind and our health and immunity. This is an important finding. Let’s discuss it with an evolutionary perspective.

A new way to look at walking

source : http://www.foot-fixer.com/images/Walking%20feet.jpgLately, it seems that a few elite coaches are going on the record to tell us that walking is not a proper way to exercise. They claim that if you make your athlete or client walk, you are not challenging them. Therefore, according to them, walking is a waste of time. Why would you choose to walk when you could do some interval training (e.g. tabatas)? Have you ever considered how long you would need to walk to burn as much fat as a 10 minutes sprint session ? Of course, if you look at walking with this perspective, you are going to miss some of the benefits it can provide in my opinion. I would like to present a new way to look at walking.
