Not all organ supplements are created equal. The single biggest difference between a premium product and a waste of money isn't the source — it's the processing.
Most supplements are heat-processed because it's fast and cheap. But heat is the enemy of nutrition: it denatures enzymes, oxidises delicate fats and degrades heat-sensitive vitamins like B12 and folate.
What freeze-drying preserves
Freeze-drying removes water at low temperature under vacuum, leaving the nutritional architecture of the food essentially untouched. Vitamins, minerals, enzymes, co-factors and biological activity all survive the process.
When comparing products, look at whether the drying method is stated and whether the product is defatted — the fat carries fat-soluble vitamins like A, D, E and K. Brands that publish laboratory results give you more to go on than brands that only promise testing.
How to spot a quality organ supplement
Before you buy any organ supplement, check these four things:
- Freeze-dried, not heat-processed or spray-dried
- Not defatted — fat-soluble vitamins need the fat
- Clearly stated sourcing — and a current certificate if certified organic is claimed
- Published laboratory results for nutritional content
