For most of human history, organ meats were the most prized part of the animal. Our ancestors instinctively knew what modern nutrition science keeps confirming: gram for gram, organs are the most nutrient-dense foods on the planet.

Grass-fed beef liver is the standout. It contains around 50 times more vitamin B12 than muscle meat, more folate than any other food, and meaningful amounts of vitamin A, riboflavin, copper, choline and heme iron — a form of iron the body absorbs more readily than the iron in plants.

The problem with synthetic multivitamins

Vitamins don't work in isolation. Your body evolved to absorb nutrients from whole foods, where they arrive packaged with the enzymes, co-factors and minerals needed to use them. A synthetic B12 tablet gives you one isolated compound; beef liver gives you the entire biological complex.

This is why so many people take multivitamins for years and feel nothing. The nutrients are there on the label, but without their natural co-factors, much of it passes straight through.

The easy way to get liver into your diet

The catch? Most of us didn't grow up eating liver, and the taste takes some getting used to. That's why dried beef liver capsules exist — a way to include liver without cooking it.

Products differ: some are freeze-dried, some heat-dried, and some defatted. Gentle drying with the fat left in is generally expected to retain more of the heat-sensitive and fat-soluble vitamins, but manufacturers rarely publish data comparing their product with fresh liver. Check our buying guide below before you choose one.

  • 50x more B12 than muscle meat
  • The most bioavailable form of iron (heme iron)
  • Natural vitamin A, folate, copper and choline
  • No additives, fillers or flow agents
